General Information:

  • The ride will be held at the “Bridle Trail” at Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane, VA (near Paris, VA). The ride will be approximately 10 miles long over a mixed terrain (complete with stream crossings).

  • Trailer parking is ample; water and portable rest room facilities will be available.

  • Check-in will begin at approximately 8:00 AM. Riders will be notified of their pre-assigned starting times by email, or by phone if no email is available.

  • We request that small groups, who wish to ride together, return their entry forms together.

  • Junior riders (18 and under) must be accompanied by an adult and wear an approved hard hat and boots with heels.

  • PLEASE leave ALL DOGS at home and please do not bring horses to the registration area.

  • Lunch meal will be provided to all participants.

  • No Award Ceremony! – All awards will be mailed to the prospective winners within the next two weeks after the ride.

Judging

The course will consist of natural and man-made obstacles. Horse and rider will be judged on ability to negotiate these obstacles safely, as well as on trail manners, general horsemanship, and ability to complete the ride within the prescribed time. Note: We adhere strictly to a 1 minute time limit for each obstacle and will deduct points from rider’s score for exceeding the time limit for the obstacle or the total ride. Decision of the on-site judges is FINAL.

Prizes – (Will be mailed to each winner the week after the ride and posted on the NHS website) Up to six ribbons will be awarded in each breed and age category. Breeds with less than five participants will be included in the “Other Registered” breed category.

Novice Horse and Novice Rider Categories – In order to qualify for either Novice Horse or Novice Rider, either you and/or your horse have competed in 3 or less JPR’s (this includes JPR’s outside of the Crystal Crown Series).

Grand Champion and Reserve Champion awards will be given to the high point winners.

Registration/Fees

The fee for pre-registered entries is $40. All entries must be postmarked no later than October 24th, 2009. Any entry after that date is on a space available basis and the fee is $50. The ride is limited to 125 riders; entries will be logged in by postmark. If you are planning to ride in a group, we request that all forms be submitted together.

Parking Fees

All vehicles will incur a $7 daily parking fee assessed by Sky Meadows State Park to be paid at the ride upon entering the park.

Substitution/Cancellations

It will be possible to substitute the horse (with Coggins papers) or the rider on the day of the ride due to extenuating circumstances. However, you may not substitute both. No refunds unless the ride is cancelled!

This ride will be held rain or shine, but may be cancelled or rescheduled if the weather or trail is considered hazardous. Final notice of rescheduled or cancelled ride will be posted by Saturday, November 1st, after 6:00 PM via voice mail message at 703-754-4981 and can also be found on-line by visiting the NHS web site at www.nokesvillehorsesociety.org then clicking on “Event Messages” from the menu.
