General Information:
-
The ride will be held at the “Bridle Trail” at
Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane, VA (near
Paris, VA). The ride will be approximately 10
miles long over a mixed terrain (complete with
stream crossings).

Trailer parking is ample; water and portable
rest room facilities will be available.

Check-in will begin at approximately 8:00 AM.
Riders will be notified of their pre-assigned
starting times by email, or by phone if no email
is available.

We request that small groups, who wish to ride
together, return their entry forms together.

Junior riders (18 and under) must
be accompanied by an adult and wear an approved
hard hat and boots with heels.

PLEASE leave ALL DOGS at home and please do not
bring horses to the registration area.

Lunch meal will be provided to all participants.

No Award Ceremony! –
All awards will be mailed to the prospective
winners the week after the ride.
Judging
The course will consist of natural and man-made obstacles.
Horse and rider will be judged on ability to
negotiate these obstacles safely, as well as on
trail manners, general horsemanship, and ability to
complete the ride within the prescribed time. Note:
We adhere strictly to a 1 minute time limit for each
obstacle and will deduct points from rider’s score
for exceeding the time limit for the obstacle or the
total ride. Riders will be disqualified who are off
course or miss an obstacle. Decision of the on-site
judges is FINAL.
Prizes – (Will be mailed to each winner the week
after the ride and posted on the NHS website)
Up to six ribbons will be awarded in each breed and
age category. Breeds with less than five
participants will be included in the “Other
Registered” breed category.
Novice Horse
and Novice Rider Categories
– Any horse and/or rider that has not placed in any
Crystal Crown 2007 ride is eligible for these
awards.
Grand Champion and Reserve Champion awards will be given to
the high point winners.
Registration/Fees
The fee for pre-registered entries is $40. All entries must
be postmarked no later than October 27th,
2007. Any entry after that date is on a space
available basis and the fee is $50. The ride is
limited to 125 riders; entries will be logged in by
postmark. If you are planning to ride in a group, we
request that all forms be submitted together.
Parking Fees
All vehicles will incur a $7 daily parking fee
assessed by Sky Meadows State Park to be paid at the
ride upon entering the park.
Substitution/Cancellations
It will be possible to substitute the horse (with Coggins
papers) or the rider on the day of the ride due to
extenuating circumstances. However, you may not
substitute both. In order to receive a refund, your
cancellation request must be made by November 2nd;
otherwise a vet certificate must accompany a written
request within 7 days after the ride.
This ride will be held rain or shine, but may be cancelled
or rescheduled if the weather or trail is considered
hazardous. Final notice of rescheduled or cancelled
ride will be posted by Saturday, November 3rd,
after 6:00 PM via voice mail message at 703-754-4981
and can also be found on-line by
visiting the NHS web site at
www.nokesvillehorsesociety.org then clicking on
“Event Messages” from the menu.
Stallions
May be entered only with prior permission of the
Ride Committee.

Ride Goals and Safety:

This is a PLEASURE RIDE. Our goal is to make it
an enjoyable experience for everyone. We expect
all riders to observe the rules of good
horsemanship, sportsmanship and safety.

Wear protective headgear and footwear with
heels. (Head Protection Recommended by NHS)

Pass with permission and only where there is
room.
-
Riders should not crowd one another on the trail
or at obstacles.
-
Horses known to kick should have a red ribbon in
their tails.
-
Green horses should be marked with green ribbons
in their tails.
-
Stallions, if prior permission is granted,
should be marked front and back with yellow
ribbons.
-
Carry the course map and a hoof pick with you
during the ride.
