Special Announcement

Thanks for those of you with interest in helping for the Make Up Western Show. We were trying to get a make up show for Nov 7th; however, unfortunately we will just have to go with the season as is, and we look forward to the 2010 series. Year end will be based on the 4 completed shows to date.

Thank you,
Karen Basala

Show Rules for 2009

General Rules that Apply to All NHS Shows:

  • All horses/ponies must show an original current Coggins Test dated within one year for each horse exhibited, and any other horse brought to the show grounds.  Anyone without such documentation will be excused from Show Grounds and refused entrance to classes. No Exceptions!

  • All entries must be accompanied by payment of all necessary fees by way of cash or open check. Checks may be made payable to NHS or Nokesville Horse Society.

  • There will be a $3.00 administration fee per horse/rider combination at each show.

  • All fields on registration form must be filled out completely. Registration must also be signed by exhibitor and parent or guardian of exhibitor if under 18 years of age.

  • In order to receive your number you will need to present current coggins; completed registration form; and payment (cash/open check).  Failure to present the above will result in you being asked to come back to registration when you have all the necessary papers.

  • The Nokesville Horse Society, Prince William Park Authority, Staff and Volunteers will not be held responsible for accident, loss, injuries to exhibitors, spectators, or animals, or damage to equipment.

  • Should any question or dispute arise that is not provided for in the aforementioned rules, the same shall be submitted to the show management, whose decision will be final.

  • The Judges’ decisions are FINAL – No Exceptions!

  • Exhibitors are hereby notified that any act of discourtesy or disobedience to judges or show officials on the part of the owner, trainer, rider, groom or parent shall be grounds to disqualify the horse and all entry fees and prizes will be forfeited.

  • Any exhibitor or spectator who is abusive to any individual or animal may be removed from the grounds. Safety is our main concern both in and out of the ring.

  • No cursing, poor sportsmanship or bad conduct will be tolerated and exhibitors will be asked to leave with NO refund of class fees.

  • Dogs are allowed, but must be on a leash and contained at all times unless we have to move to a different facility due to inclement weather at which point dogs will not be allowed.

  • All exhibitors are expected to clean the area around their trailer and to take any manure home with them.

Specific Rules that Apply to
Western Schooling Shows:

  1. The Nokesville Horse Society, Prince William Park Authority, Staff and Volunteers will not be held responsible for accident, loss, injuries to exhibitors, spectators, or animals, or damage to equipment.

  2. Points will be awarded as follows: 1st = 7 pts., 2nd = 5 pts., 3rd = 4 pts., 4th = 3 pts., 5th = 2 pts., 6th = 1 pt, 4 or less in each class will be pointed as follows: 1st =4, 2nd = 3, 3rd = 2, 4th = 1.  If only 1 rider in class – 1st = 1 point.

  3. Riders must show in 3 of the 6 shows on the schedule to be eligible for year end awards.

  4. Dress is casual. The requirements are a boot with a heel, a belt, a hat (helmet  for anyone under 18 for speed events), and neat, clean clothing. Sleeveless/Tank Tops are allowed, but no halter tops, or spaghetti strap shirts. Whether you wear “fancy” western attire is entirely up to the individual.  However, you should know that some judges might place someone ahead of you if their turnout is impressive and attention getting. This may be due to their past experiences in judging horse shows and beyond our control. They will be informed prior to each show that we do not have a strict dress code.

  5. The judge has the authority to excuse any horse from a class, due to lameness, at any time while being judged.  Obvious lameness is: Consistently observable at a trot; marked nodding, hitching or shortened stride; minimal weight bearing in motion and/or at rest.

  6. Dogs are allowed, but must be on a leash and contained at all times.

  7. The Judges and/or Show Managers decision is FINAL.

Penalties

  1. No cursing, poor sportsmanship or bad conduct will be tolerated and participant will be asked to leave with NO refund of class fees.

  2. Use of illegal equipment (i.e. bits, tack, etc.) in any class could be grounds for DQ.

  3. Going off pattern in any speed event is a DQ.

  4. A five second penalty will be added to the recorded time for each barrel or pole knocked down.

  5. In the walk-trot events, the rider is allowed three consecutive canter strides before being disqualified.

  6. There is one minute time limit once you attempt to enter the ring for timed events.  The rider will be disqualified if they cannot get the horse in within that time period.
